“Environmental law is failing. And it will continue to fail because it comes from the same paradigm that created the problem.” — Mumta Ito

Our new series is a 1930s vision of techno-topia! It’s not only from the 30s, though – while long past its heyday, a small Technocracy movement still exists today, which only makes this all the more interesting. This movement that proposed all of North America should be one unified country governed by scientists and experts.
Here’s what’s in store:

I also wanted to mention some good news: we have been invited to join a podcast network! This is a big sign that we’re headed in the right direction, and it also gives the show a modest income from ads. If you prefer no ads, head over to www.patreon.com/deadideaspod to get ad-free episodes and get your portrait drawn too!
In addition to Paganism and Shinto, a major passion of mine is secularism.
What’s secularism, I hear you ask. Is that the same as Atheism or Humanism? Not at all! Atheism and Humanism are philosophies, which (in most cases) are based on the belief that there are no gods of any sort.
In this time of accelerating environmental change, many of us feel a sense of urgency to help transform humanity’s relationship with the Earth. This sense of urgency is what drew together a group of diverse Pagan leaders, authors, artists, and bloggers from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia to draft “A Pagan Community Statement on the Environment”. The working group included several members of the Humanistic Paganism community.
The statement has been published at ecopagan.com where you can add your signature. The statement represents the beginning of a conversation, not the final word. Join us in our call to all people to rise to this historic moment in order to protect all life on Earth by signing the statement. You can sign on your own behalf or on behalf of a group or organization.
We need just about 500 more signatures to reach our goal of 10,000 by Earth Day 2018. Please share!
Neandertals and Humans Share More Than Blood
Our distant cousin, the Neandertals, were once believed to be ignorant, speechless, and noncognitive (except for the ones representing Geico), like in the TV episode, Beer Bad from season four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (hail to the Buffy nerds!).
