Your Once in a Lifetime Chance to see a Star Explode! It’ll happen any day now!
What, really? See a star explode – go Nova or Supernova? But aren’t those completely unpredictable? How can we know when to look?
Like so much else that science shows us, it’s complicated. The upshot is that some are very predictable, and brightest predictable one in the entire night sky in your lifetime is expected to explode before Samhain this year – literally any day now. Here’s how to see it.
Success! We did it! A Celebration of the Discovery of the Big Bang is coming on April 20! Can you be there? [Starstuff, Contemplating]
The celebrations on April 20th at the site of the Horn in Holmdel NJ begins with a ribbon cutting at 10 am, which will include Robert Wilson, who was one of the original discoverers of the Big Bang in 1964 (!). Following that is the celebration of the discovery of the Big Bang by the Deeptime Network (preregistration is required for that as attendance is limited – register here before it fills up), with the rest of the day following. If it works for you, this could be a great Naturalistic Pagan Pilgrimage.

The total eclipse this coming April 8th will hold dozens of millions of people in awe (including both Americans and eclipse chasers). What will I do during those 100 or so sacred seconds? Will I prepare a ritual? Just revel in it? Hug my kids? I have no idea yet. All religions have sacred times and sacred places. For many of us (and certainly me), this will be one of those most sacred times. What will that time be like for you? I don’t think that can be predicted – we can’t decide when the sacred will touch us.
